Ministry Essentials

As part of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI), the Children’s Ministry Network (CMN) have collaborated to develop flexible training programmes for those engaged in mission and ministry with children and families.

  • Children’s Ministry Essentials (10 modules)
  • Family and Intergen Ministry Essentials (10 modules)

Both programmes are designed to be delivered in a variety of ways including online and face to face. Once registered every participant is given access to all the online material that they can engage with at their own pace. This includes short videos explaining ideas and concepts, and interactive exercises that help you to think about how what you have learnt applies to your own context.

Many of the denominations involved are also offering extra support for learners in the form of discounts and gathered sessions either online or face to face. Get in touch with your local contact to find out more.

The ten modules can be taken together as a full programme, or as standalone courses. Each module explores one key area of ministry , and should take about two learning hours to complete.  The learning is self-paced, which means you can engage with the content at a time that suits you and work through it at your own speed.

Modules are made up of three sections: insights, where we explore theories and research on the theme; practice and skills, where we look at how this applies to our mission and ministry; and personal development, where we look at how this impacts you as a practitioner and as a disciple. There are some preparatory resources to work through at the beginning of each course, and you will have opportunities to consolidate your learning through written reflections and creative activities. Each module also includes opening and closing devotions as we dedicate all that we do to God.

There is no assessment or grading for this learning, but everyone who completes the full programme will receive a certificate of completion from Churches Together in Britain and Ireland / Children’s Ministry Network.

The programme is designed to be a comprehensive introduction to mission and ministry with children whatever context you work in. Each module introduces the key concepts for the theme and then explores how these can be applied to both your practice and you as a practitioner.

Our prayer is that as you watch, think, talk, jot down your ideas and put things in to practice not only will you grow in confidence, but the children you are engaging with will grow knowledge and love of God.

For training in Youth Ministry, Children’s Ministry Network warmly commends the excellent programme created and run by Youthscape:

Youthscape Essentials | Youthscape

This is a ten-session programme with each session including Insights into Young People, Skills for Youth Work and Developing Character.

Although I am not a member of the group, I have benefited from the resources they have created, and the wisdom that they share.
